Former Warrior Golfer Hamamoto Advances To Q-School Final Stage

Former University of Hawai'i men's golfer Jarrett Hamamoto is one of 132 golfers advancing to the third and final stage of the PGA Tour Q-School. Hamamoto tied for 19th during the second stage held at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif., Nov. 18-21.

The final stage of PGA Tour Q-School will be held Dec. 2-7 at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla. The event will be contested over 108 holes and only the low 25 scores and ties will earn their PGA Tour cards for 2010. The rest of the field will have some degree of status on the Nationwide Tour. The purse for the event is $1,012,500 with $50,000 going to the champion.

“I'm ecstatic to hear that JT has made it to the final stage of the PGA qualifying school,” UH head coach Ronn Miyashiro said. “Though the journey is not over yet, he is a great example of how hard work and perseverance can lead to your goals being fulfilled. I and all of the UH Warrior golf family wish him the best of luck in the Finals.”

Hamamoto was a two-year letterman for the Warriors from 2004-06 after transferring from the Air Force Academy. He tied for individual medalist honors at the 2006 Western Athletic Conference Championship, where he lost in the second playoff hole, and tied for fourth at the 2005 WAC Championships.

Hamamoto is the first UH golfer coached by Miyashiro to advance to the final stage of qualifying. Former Warriors Pierre-Henri Soero and Matt Kodama have competed in Q-School but never advanced to the final stage.
