Roderick Flemings shoots over Chaminade
HONOLULU – The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Warrior basketball team captured its third straight win with an 83-58 rout of Chicago State Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Warriors improved to 5-4 overall with the win.

UH got off to a slow start but put it in overdrive in the second half for its most comfortable victory of the year. The Rainbow Warriors went on a 31-6 run to turn a three-point lead into a 28-point cushion.

Four different players finished in double digits for the 'Bows led by Roderick Flemings, who finished with 18 points off the bench. Dwain Williams, making his first start since the fourth game of the season, poured in 15 points, while Adhar Mayen and Petras Balocka each chipped in 12 points.

Christian Wall finished with a game-high 20 points for the Cougars, who fell to 3-5 on the year.

UH didn't take its first lead of the game until the 7:55 mark of the first half. But once they took the lead, they would never let go. The 'Bows took a 33-26 lead into the locker room after Mayen banked in a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer. After the Cougars scored the first two baskets of the second half to cut it to 33-30, it was all UH after that as the Rainbow Warriors scored 31 of the next 37 points of the game.

The Rainbow Warriors shot 54 percent in the second half and the UH offense was running to precision with 19 assists on 25 made field goals. Hiram Thompson led the way with a career-best nine assists, while turning the ball over just twice. UH also shot the ball well from the outside draining 8 of 17 attempts from 3-point land.

Hawai`i will now have a 10-day layoff before hosting the inaugural Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, Dec. 22, 23 & 25. UH's first opponent in the tournament will be the College of Charleston on Dec. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
