Dunnachie Named WAC Special Teams Player Of The Week

DENVER – University of Hawai'i punter Alex Dunnachie was named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference special teams player of the week.

Dunnachie, a freshman from Heidelberg, Victoria, Australia (Marcellin College), punted six times for a 49.2-yard average in the game against Wisconsin. He had four punts of at least 55 yards including a season-best 66-yarder in the first quarter. Two of his punts were downed inside the 20-yard line and three were returned for a total of just eight yards.

After starting the game with punts of 20 and 38 yards, Dunnachie averaged 59.3 yards over his next four punts, with bombs of 66, 55, 55, and 61 yards.

The award is Dunnachie's first of his career and marks the sixth Warrior to receive the league's weekly award this season joining quarterback Greg Alexander, slot receiver Greg Salas, running back Leon Wright-Jackson, linebacker Corey Paredes, and linebacker Blaze Soares.

For his efforts, Dunnachie was also selected as the College Football Performance Awards Punter Performer of the Week with Florida's Chas Henry. It was the first such honor for a UH player this season.
