OMAHA, Neb. – University of Hawai'i Rainbow outfielder
Kolten Wong earned American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings second-team all-West Region honors, the ABCA announced Tuesday.
Wong started all 58 games for the 'Bows during his freshman year, batting .341 with 11 home runs, 21 doubles, two triples, 52 RBI, 46 runs and 11 stolen bases. Along with his prowess at the plate, Wong also led the team with seven outfield assists.
The Hilo, Hawai`i, native earned Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year honors, batting a team-high .424 in conference games. He was also a first-team all-WAC honoree. He has also been named to the Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Freshman All-America teams, while earning All-Ping! Freshman honors.
Wong is currently in Cary, N.C., at the USA Baseball National Team Trials.
