University of Hawai`i Rainbow outfielder
Kolten Wong was named to the
Rivals.com Freshman All-America Thursday, earning his fifth Freshman All-America honor.
The Hilo, Hawai'i, native also garnered recognition from
Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball,
Baseball America, Ping! and the
National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. He was the Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and earned first-team all-WAC honors as well.
Wong started all 58 games for the 'Bows in centerfield in 2009, batting .341 with 11 home runs, 21 doubles, two triples, 52 RBI, 46 runs and 11 stolen bases. Along with his prowess at the plate, Wong also led the team with seven outfield assists.
The Kamehameha-Hawai'i native is currently playing with the United States national team. Wong started for Team USA at second base in yesterday's 15-1 win over Guatemala. He went 1-for-4 with one RBI, two runs, a double and a stolen base.
