Emma MacCorquodale has been selected to represent Canada at the 2009 Pan American Junior Championships after winning the hammer throw event at the Canadian Junior Championships last week.
Competing for British Columbia Athletics, MacCorquodale threw 168-7 (51.38m) on her second attempt, tops among the 13-athlete field. She will now compete in the Pan American Junior Championships which runs July 31-August 2 in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago.
This past season, the freshman from Nanaimo, British Columbia threw a seasonal-best 173-7 (52.90m) in the hammer throw at the Mt. SAC Relays in April.
MacCorquodale has international experience having competed for Team Canada at the World Youth Games in 2005 (Morocco) and 2007 (Czech Republic).
