SEATTLE – The University of Hawai'i football team held its final practice, Friday, at Qwest Field, home of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks, and site of tomorrow's non-conference game against Washington State.
Kickoff is 4:00 p.m. PT (1:00 p.m. HT) and the game will be televised live back to the islands on Oceanic Pay-Per-View (Digital Ch. 255). A re-broadcast of the game will be shown on KFVE-TV at 9:30 p.m. Saturday night and 10:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
In addition, fans can listen to the game live on ESPN 1420 AM, beginning with the “Countdown To Kickoff” show at 11:30 a.m. Neighbor islands can listen live on KNUI on Maui, KPUA in Hilo, KMWB in Kona.
Temperature at kickoff is expected to be 82 degrees with sunny skies.
The Warriors (1-0) got their first glimpse of the 67,000-seat stadium during their 60-minute walk-through practice. Qwest Field has hosted a Washington State “home” game since 2002 and crowd of close to 50,000 is expected. Among the crowd will be several thousand Warrior fans – those making the trip from the islands and many of whom living in the Pacific Northwest.
UH is coming off a 25-20 come-from-behind victory over Central Arkansas last week. The Cougars (0-1) lost their season- and conference-opener to Stanford, 39-13, in Pullman, Wash.
Hawai'i and Washington State will meet for the fifth time with each team winning twice. Last season, the Warriors defeated the Cougars, 24-10, at Aloha Stadium. In that game, quarterback
Greg Alexander passed for 315 yards and two touchdowns and receiver
Greg Salas caught seven passes for 131 yards and a score.
The game marks the first time UH has played in the Emerald City since 1973, when Hawai'i upset Washington, 10-7. The game also marks the first of three straight road games for the Warriors, a first since 1964. Following the game, UH will stay on the mainland and head for Las Vegas, Nev., where they will play UNLV, Saturday, Sept. 19.
