Five Rainbow Wahine Earn ITA Academic Honors

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its list of academic honorees for 2008-09 with five University of Hawai'i women's tennis players gaining recognition. Sophie Kobuch, Dasha Lagmay, Ellen Linsenbolz, Anja-Vanessa Peter and Natasha Zorec were named ITA Scholar Athletes for their performances on the court and in the classroom.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letterwinner, have a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

Kobuch earned a 3.72 PGA while majoring in biology. The junior also earned all-WAC honors for the second straight year. Linsenbolz carried a 3.96 GPA, while playing the No. 1 position for the Rainbow Wahine. Peter, who played most of the season at No. 2 singles, earned a 3.82 GPA. Meanwhile, freshman Lagmay (3.62) and sophomore Zorec (3.76) also mad the list as pre-business majors.

All five players were part of the 2008-09 squad that won the program's most matches in eight years and advanced to the WAC Tournament semifinals in school history.
