Clifford Sanchez Named Kane Fernandez Award Recipient

HONOLULU – Former University of Hawai'i basketball player Clifford Sanchez will be awarded with the Kane Fernandez Community Service Award at this Saturday's basketball game against Fresno State. Sanchez will be the fifth recipient of the award, presented annually to a past UH letterwinner who has volunteered his or her support unselfishly to further advance their community.

Sanchez lettered for UH from 1976-81 under head coach Larry Little. He is currently an associate educational director at the Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center in Los Angeles. Sanchez is a member of the UH Letterwinners Club serving on the Board of Directors and is active with the UH Alumni Association in southern California.

Besides supporting the University, Sanchez is active with the Los Angeles Clippers Foundation, the Ella Fitzgerald Library, Rhino Records Incorporation and the Reebok Professional Alliance Program.

The award is named for the late Kane Fernandez, chairman and chief executive officer of Fernandez Entertainment, who passed away in January 2001. He was one of the original members of the UH Letterwinners Club.
