Hawai'i Begins NCAA Tournament, Hosts Northern Colorado

The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball earned the No. 10 overall seed in the 2011 NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship, and will host rounds one and two at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Wahine (29-1) welcome in Oregon and Colorado State, as well as Northern Colorado whom they will face to open the tournament.
 
Northern Colorado, champions of the Big Sky Conference, comes in with an overall record of 22-8. The 'Bows and Bears will play Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7:00 p.m. Oregon (21-9) and Mountain West Conference champion Colorado State (23-5) will play the first match of the doubleheader beginning at 5:00 p.m.
 
The winners of both matches will play Friday, Dec. 2 at 7:00 p.m. for the right to advance to the Honolulu Regional.
 
The three-time NCAA champion Rainbow Wahine will make their 30th appearance in the tournament, and host for the first time since 2003. That season, Hawai'i advanced to the NCAA Final Four before falling to Florida in the National Semifinals.
 
UH is coming off its 16th Western Athletic Conference title, and 11th WAC Tournament championship.
 
Last season, the 'Bows traveled to Seattle for the first two rounds. They defeated Portland in the opening round before losing to host Washington in round two.
