UH-Navy To Play In Football In 2013 & 2015

HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i Athletics Director Jim Donovan announced a two-year football contract with the Naval Academy during the 2013 and 2015 seasons.

The teams will play Nov. 9, 2013 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md., and Nov. 28, 2015 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu.

“I've very pleased to be able to continue our football playing relationship with the Naval Academy,” Donovan said. “Obviously with the rich Naval presence in the islands and Pearl Harbor serving as a backdrop to Aloha Stadium, we have a special association with this academy. It will be a great experience for our student-athletes to play in Annapolis much like it was at West Point last year.”

Hawai'i and Navy have met twice with UH winning both times at Aloha Stadium – 48-41 on Nov. 20, 1999 and 24-17 on Nov. 28, 2009, the latter of which was televised nationally on ESPNU.

Navy is coached by former UH quarterback Ken Niumatalolo, who also coached the Midshipmen during the team's last visit to the islands in 2009. Niumatololo, who lettered for Hawai'i from 1987-89, has led Navy to three straight bowl appearances and a 27-14 overall record.

“Kenny is a proud UH alum and this should draw a special interest with our fans,” Donovan added.

UH's 2013 schedule could possibly include all three Division I military academies. The Warriors will host a non-conference game against Army, Nov. 30 at Aloha Stadium and may play Air Force as part of the Mountain West Conference schedule. Hawai'i will move to the MWC for the 2012-13 season.
