HONOLULU – The No. 10 University of Hawai'i women's water polo team opens regular season play as they head to California this week for a series of matches against many top-notch teams from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and other competing conferences.
 
The Rainbow Wahine first face No. 2 California on Feb. 2 at 4:30 p.m. PT at the Spieker Aquatics Complex. When they last met in the 2011 season, the Golden Bears just slipped past UH 7-6 in conference play (Apr. 2).
 
UH will participate in the Stanford Invitational all weekend. It kicks off on Feb. 4, where the Rainbow Wahine will face No. 4 UCLA at 12:00 p.m. PT and No. 13 Michigan at 5:15 p.m. PT. On Feb. 5 they face the Golden Bears again at 8:00 a.m. PT followed by another game, which will be announced according to their results.
 
Other teams participating in the invitational include UC Davis, USC, and San Jose State. All matches will be played at the Avery Aquatic Center.
