HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i head football coach Norm Chow announced the addition of three members to his inaugural coaching staff, offensive assistant Philip Rauscher and defensive assistants Lewis Powell and Tony Tuioti.
 
“I'm excited to bring in these young, up-and-coming coaches who have bright futures in the coaching profession,” Chow said. “I've gotten to know Phil and Lewis during my last two stops at Utah and UCLA and they have tremendous upside and will bring a hard-working mentality to our program. Tony has proven to be an outstanding recruiter and I'm pleased he'll remain on staff. Each of them brings unique qualities which will only strengthen our football team.”
 
Rauscher and Powell were both administrative assistants at Utah last season, where Chow served as offensive coordinator. Rauscher also worked under Chow as a graduate assistant at UCLA where Chow was offensive coordinator. Tuioti spent the past two seasons on the Hawai'i staff as an assistant coach after two previous years as director of player personnel.
 
Rauscher was an administrative assistant at Utah in 2011 after spending one year as the offensive coordinator at Division II Dixie State. A graduate of UCLA, he was a graduate assistant for the Bruins from 2008-09. A three-year letterman who played both sides of the line, Rauscher also served as undergraduate assistant and intern at UCLA.
 
Powell spent the 2011 season as an administrative assistant at Utah, where he was a three-year letterman on the defensive line from 2001-03. He later served as a graduate assistant with the Utes. Born in Honolulu, Powell played briefly with the Utah Blaze of Arena Football.
 
Tuioti coached the defensive tackles the past two seasons on former coach Greg McMackin's staff. A four-year letterman for the Warriors from 1996-99, Tuioti joined the staff as director of player personnel in 2008. He was a graduate assistant at UH from 2001-02 and spent three years as head coach at Kalaheo High School in Kailua, O'ahu.
