HONOLULU – After a disappointing opening round loss to Miami in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, the University of Hawai'i men's basketball bounced back with an 84-61 win over East Tennessee State in a consolation game Sunday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
UH took control early building a double-digit lead seven minutes into the game in leading from wire-to-wire. The Rainbow Warriors (6-4) will now face Ole Miss in the tournament's fifth place game on Christmas Day with an 11:30 a.m. tipoff.
Vander Joaquim led UH with 23 points—just one shy of his career high—while also adding nine rebounds.
Christian Standhardinger recorded his team-leading fifth double-double of the season and his fourth in the last five games with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
UH also got big performances out of two freshmen in

Brandon Jawato.
Fotu posted his first career double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Clair finished with 15 points – on 4-of-8 shooting from 3-point range – and five assists in 30 minutes, while getting his first career starting nod.
UH took a 34-22 lead into the locker room after holding ETSU to just 28 percent shooting in the first half. The 'Bows then turned it into a rout in the second half, scoring the first 12 points of the second half and building its lead to as many as 31 points after the break
Hawai'i had a season-high 22 assists and dominated the boards with a 49-26 advantage. The 'Bows shot 58.8 percent in the second half in a 50-point outburst.
