Warriors Wrap Up Third Week Of Football Practice With Scrimmage

Scott Harding hauled in this catch which went for 59 yards and a touchdown
HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Warrior football team concluded its third week of spring training with a 70-play scrimmage Friday afternoon at the Clarence T.C. Ching Field.

Following a 30-minute practice, the team conducted its first scrimmage of the spring under first-year head coach Norm Chow. During its first eight practices, the team got accustomed to Chow's pro-set offense and defensive coordinator Thom Kaumeyer's 4-3 defense.

Thirty minutes into Friday's practice, the team conducted its first full-contact scrimmage with David Graves, Ikaika Woolsey, and Jeremy Higgins alternating the reps at quarterback. UH played primarily its first and second units, which was highlighted by a pair of touchdowns passes by Graves – a 59-yarder to Scott Harding and 38-yarder to Billy Ray Stutzmann.

Running back Will Gregory added a pair of touchdown runs of 8-yards and 2-yards while placekickers Tyler Hadden and Kyle Niiro converted all nine field goal attempts. Hadden was 6-of-6, including a 50-yarder which easily crossed the bar and capped the 75-minute scrimmage.

"We did some good things out there on both sides of the ball," Chow said. "It was nice to finally be able to get game reps and hit and tackle. The offense made some nice plays and our defense got some good hits in. There's still a lot we need to work on but we're getting better each day we practice and that's refreshing to see."

The team continues practice next week Tuesday and Thursday. On Saturday, the team will conduct a practice and autograph session at Maui's War Memorial Stadium beginning at 9:30 a.m. Admission is free to the public. UH concludes its spring practices, Friday, April 27 with the annual Warrior Bowl at Ching Field.
