Heffernan Earns National Honor

ORLANDO, Fla.  – University of Hawai'i Strength and Conditioning Coordinator Tommy Heffernan has been named Master Strength and Conditioning Coach by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa), the highest such honor given in the strength and conditioning coaching profession.

Heffernan will officially receive the honor during a ceremony at the association's national conference on Thursday, May 10 in Orlando, Fla.  Master Strength and Conditioning Coach Curtis Tsuruda, a former UH strength and conditioning coach and alum of the University, will present Heffernan with a blue Master Strength and Conditioning Coach jacket during the ceremony to signify the honor.

“This is an incredible honor for Tommy,” says CSCCa Executive Director, Dr. Chuck Stiggins.  “Being named a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach signifies a commitment to the student athlete, the University of Hawai'i athletic program, and the strength and conditioning profession.  We are honored to have Coach Heffernan as a member of our association and to have him join the ranks of the Master Strength and Conditioning Coaches.  He is truly a model of an outstanding strength and conditioning professional.”

Heffernan has served as the school's strength and conditioning coordinator for the last 12 years, overseeing UH's 20 intercollegiate sports. He is one of 15 coaches to earn the prestigious certification.
