Game Notes
HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior basketball team tips off its 2013-14 campaign with the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Rainbow Classic, Nov. 8-12 at the Stan Sheriff Center. Fourth-year head coach
Gib Arnold leads the Rainbow Warriors into battle as they host the 49th edition of the tournament.
This will mark the fourth year of a four-team, round-robin format with the Rainbow Warriors winning the last two Classics in 2010 and '12 (tournament hiatus in 2011). It should be an exciting tournament this year as all four teams in the field qualified for the postseason last year. Joining UH this year are Western Michigan (22-13), New Mexico State (24-11) and Tennessee State (18-15), UH's opening night opponent.
Fans got their first look at this year's Rainbow Warrior squad during a 101-85 exhibition win over BYU-Hawai'i on Halloween Night.
Christian Standhardinger led the way with 27 points while junior college transfer
Garrett Nevels impressed with 24 points.
Now the regular season begins for a squad that boasts six returning letterwinners, four returning redshirts and seven newcomers. The tournament concludes on Nov. 12 at midnight (12:00 a.m.) with a nationally televised game between UH and former league rival New Mexico State as part of ESPN's College Hoops Tip-off Marathon.
