FULLERTON, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team won its third straight road game with a pulsating 77-75 victory over Cal State Fullerton Saturday night at Titan Gym. With the win UH improved to 13-9 overall and 7-4 in the Big West.

For the second straight time on the road, the Rainbow Warriors overcame a double-digit deficit in the second half. UH trailed by as many as 12 points against the Titans but didn't fold, using a 16-2 run late in the game to win its third straight away game. The last time a UH team accomplished that feat was during the 2003-04 season.

In its first-ever visit to Fullerton, UH was able to complete a season sweep of  the Titans a month after rallying for two-point victory in Honolulu. CSUF (11-11, 4-6 BWC), meanwhile, continued their slide losing for the fifth time in its last six games, including four straight at home.

Christian Standhardinger scored 12 of his team-high 18 points in the first half to lead UH. Vander Joaquim recorded his eighth double-double of the year with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Hauns Brereton and Isaac Fotu each chipped in 13 points. Brandon Spearman finished with 11 points, including a clutch three-pointer down the stretch.

Kwame Vaughn led CSUF with 19 points.

The first half was defined by a pair of runs. UH got off to a slow start but went on a 20-6 run to build a double-digit lead, 33-23, with four minutes left in the half. But the Titans responded with a 16-2 surge to close the half and take a 39-35 advantage into the locker room.

The Titans continued the momentum in the second half as a 14-6 run in the first five minutes gave them their largest lead of the game, 53-41. CSUF continued to control the game, holding a 62-52 lead with 8:19 to play. But that's when UH made its final push. The 'Bows put together a 16-2 run, capped by back-to-back three-pointers by Brereton and Spearman to take a 68-64 lead with 2:40 left.

It was a lead UH would not relinquish as the 'Bows clamped down on defense with some huge stops and sealed the game at the free throw line where they scored seven of their final nine points.

The Rainbow Warriors maintained its third-place Big West standing with the win and finished off a four-game road stretch in grand style after suffering its worst loss of the season at Cal Poly on the first leg of the trip.

UH will now return home for a pair of games beginning with a showdown against league-leading Long Beach State on Thursday, Feb. 7. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
