Women's Tennis Signs Local Standout

HONOLULU—University of Hawai'i women's tennis head coach Jun Hernandez announced the signing of local standout, Taylor Lau for the 2018 Rainbow Wahine team.

Lau is a two-time state singles champion out of Saint Francis School in Honolulu, O'ahu. The 5-5 Honolulu native won the state title as a freshman in 2014 and last year as a junior in 2016. In between, Lau won the league singles championship as a sophomore and was the state runner-up that season in 2015. She was named St. Francis' Ninth Grade Athlete of the Year in 2014 and last season earned the school's 2016 Athlete of the Year award.  Academically, Lau has also excelled. She is a member of Mu Alpha Theta—the National High School Mathematics Honor Society and the National Chinese Honor Society. She is also an accomplished song writer, singer and actress. Last year, she played Alice in St. Francis' spring production of "Alice in Wonderland."

"I'm really looking forward to having Taylor representing the University of Hawai'i," says Hernandez. "She will be a great addition to our program both on and off the court. Taylor is a great student and a two-time state champ. More importantly, Taylor is an extremely hard worker and a very nice young lady. She will definitely fit our team's culture and I am looking forward to working with her."
