The University of Hawai'i receiving corps will have a new look for the 2014 season after the loss of three starters and a heralded true freshman.

In a span of two weeks, the unit lost returning starter Keith Kirkwood, who decided to transfer just before the start of fall camp; part-time starter Vasquez Haynes, who underwent season-ending surgery; and true freshman Devan Stubblefield, who suffered a season-ending injury on the first day of camp.

Haynes and Kirkwood both showed promise as first-year receivers in 2013. Haynes totaled 29 receptions for 354 yards and three touchdowns while Kirkwood made five starts as a true freshman and finished with 250 yards on 12 catches and four touchdowns.

Still, the unit returns several key components, including slot receiver Scott Harding, who finished the season ranked second on the team with 56 receptions for 631 yards and one touchdown. The Brisbane, Australia, native averaged 11.3 yards per catch and posted at least five catches in eight games. The team's Most Valuable Player also started at both punter and punt returner.

Among the other returnees are Marcus Kemp, a sophomore from Layton, Utah; Donnie King, Jr., a senior from Kapolei, O'ahu; and Samson Anguay, a junior from 'Ewa Beach, O'ahu. Kemp and King each amassed 11 catches while Anguay saw his first action in three years in 2013 after overcoming two knee injuries.

Among the other returnees are redshirt frosh Ammon Barker of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Utah transfer Quinton Pedroza, a junior from Chino, Calif. At 6-foot-4, Barker is a big target on the outside while Pedroza spent two years playing in the Pac-12 after a stellar career at Chino High, where he set numerous receiving records.

Ryan Pasoquen, a junior from Wahiawa, O'ahu and Duke Bukoski, a junior from Honolulu also return.

Redshirt freshman Keelan Ewaliko made the switch from the defensive side of the ball during his redshirt year. The Wailuku, Maui, native was a three-time league Offensive Player of the Year at Baldwin High and has shown promise at the slot position during fall camp.

Newcomers Darrian Josey (Boynton Beach, Fla.), Don'Yeh Patterson (Carson, Calif.), and Terrence Sayles (Dallas, Texas) will also push for playing time. Josey, who is also a candidate at kickoff returner, amassed 23 catches for 584 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior at Boynton Beach High School. Patterson was a two-way player at Carson High School in California and totaled 36 catches for 518 yards and four touchdowns as a senior. Sayles was a member of U.S. Army for five years before walking-on to the team in the spring.

The tight-end position is up for grabs after the departure of Clark Evans, whose 40 receptions was two shy of the school's single-season record for catches by a tight end.

Among the candidates are junior Harold Moleni, senior Jordan Pu'u-Robinson, and redshirt junior Josh Long. Moleni has the most experience of the group, having made five starts in his first two seasons at UH. Pu'u-Robinson, a converted defensive lineman, has been plagued with injuries during his two seasons at Hawai'i since transferring from Washington State. Long redshirted last season after two seasons at Riverside City College.

Dakota Torres (Wai'anae, O'ahu) was a top prospect out of Punahou School in Honolulu.

First-year assistant Luke Matthews is coaching the unit full-time after serving as a graduate assistant in 2013. A four-year starter at Utah, Matthews helped the unit show statistical improvement in several categories last season. The receivers registered 43 receptions of 25 or more yards compared to 15 in 2012.
