Keali'i Kauahi The University of Hawai'i offensive line unit is the most experienced group on the offensive side of the ball with a combined 80 career starts and four returning starters.
Headlining the group is
Ben Clarke, a junior from Littleton, Colo., who started all 24 games of his career at center. The two-time all-Mountain West honorable mention made the switch to left tackle during spring practices and is penciled in as the starter. Over the past two seasons, Clarke graded out at 87 percent and 84 percent, respectively, which was among the team's top marks.
Replacing Clarke at the center position is senior
Kody Afusia, who was a back-up center his first two seasons at UH. Last season the Midway City, Calif., native made 11 starts at left guard and graded out with a team-high 85 percent.
Penciled in at right guard is
Dave Lefotu, a senior from Pearl City, O'ahu, who has 21 career starts, including 20 at right guard. Lefotu will team on the right side with fellow senior
Sean Shigematsu, a senior from Kapa'a, Kaua'i, who will occupy the right tackle position. The three-year letterman has 14 career starts primarily at right tackle. Last season, he made starts at three different positions – right tackle, left tackle and right guard.
Among the candidates at left-guard spot are a pair of redshirt freshmen –
John Wa'a, of Hau'ula, O'ahu and
Elijah Tupai, of Taylorsville, Utah. Wa'a, one of the state of Hawai'i's top recruits out of Kahuku High School, was selected as the team's offensive Scout Team award winner during his redshirt year of 2013. Tupai also redshirted last season after undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery.
Sophomore
Leo Koloamatangi will back-up Clarke at the left tackle position. The East Palo Alto, Calif., native appeared in eight games as a reserve lineman last season. Frank Loyd, Jr., a senior from 'Aiea, O'ahu, who made six starts at right tackle last season, is listed as Shigematsu's back-up at right tackle.
Sophomore
Kory Rasmussen, a Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama graduate and University of Colorado transfer, has been battling at right guard as is listed as No. 2 behind Lefotu. Freshman
Kaiwi Chung, a three-year first-team all-state pick at Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama, is Afusia's back-up at center.
Other returnees include redshirt
RJ Hollis, a sophomore from Phoenix, Ariz., and
Kiha Sai, a sophomore from Honolulu. Freshmen
Asotui Eli, a graduate of Kealakehe High School and
Keali'i Kauahi, out of Mission Viejo High School, are likely redshirt candidates.
Heading the unit is NFL veteran
Chris Naeole, who spent 11 years in the league with the New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars.
